David Segall and Alex Chatham tasked Big Fan with the branding of their new product; the ‘Das Horn’. They had successfully crowd-funded over $80k on Kickstarter for their Viking and German inspired “ultimate” drinking vessel.
The idea came about when David ordered several drinking horns to give to friends as gifts. When the horns arrived he was disappointed with the quality and finish. This spurred on the idea of creating his own 21st century drinking horn. A timeless classic once used for gathering and feasting but brought up-to-date for use in everyday culture.
Das Horn had gained a loyal and cult following through crowd funding. All the backers were waiting in excited anticipation of receiving their drinking vessels.
Big Fan’s challenge was to create an identity which could spark a cultural movement. Traditional drinking vessels are out, Das Horn is in!
The brand had to allow people to connect with the product building social currency and encouraging social media engagement in order to spread the word.
Maintaining a Germanic and iconic look and feel that was envisaged for Das Horn, we injected further personality into the product by introducing tongue in cheek mannerisms to the characters featured. This allowed it to stand out as a bold, quirky and unique drinking vessel.
While Das Horn was a new product on the market, we used traditional influences to provide history and a backstory to it. Blending this with modern tones and clean lines best showcased the horn’s practicality as well as serving as a fun drinking device.
